Israeli actor and singer Idan Amedi, best known for his role as Sagi Tzur in the hit Israeli television series Fauda, has joined the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) as a reservist to defend his country against the Hamas terror group.
In a video message shared on X/Twitter by Fauda‘s official account, Amedi talks about helping to keep his country safe and being called up to join the IDF following Hamas’ initial attack against Israeli civilians on Saturday morning.
“As you can see, I’m in a slightly different attire today,” he began by saying, while wearing an IDF uniform and holding a gun. “This is not a scene from Fauda. This is real life … Alongside the horrifying and vicious attacks, our morale remains high. We fully comprehend why we are here. We are here to protect our children, our families and our homes.”
“And I want to promise you that we will not surrender until we win,” he added. He also thanked all the Israeli citizens who sent care packages to IDF soldiers containing necessarily equipment, food, resources and even encouraging letters as they combat Hamas. He said, “it gives us strength. I love you and I hope we will see quieter days soon.”
During Amedi’s mandatory military service in the IDF in the past, he served in the combat engineering corps. He also grew up training in taekwondo and Thai boxing. In 2005, he came in second place in a national taekwondo championship.
Fauda creator and actor Lior Raz said in his own social media video earlier this week that he joined a volunteer group called “Brothers in Arms” to help Israeli civilians in southern Israel impacted by the Hamas attacks.
